1/26/2012 - Oakland University high school team camp

Please let me know if you would be available for this so we can plan ahead. Thank you

Hello Michigan High School Soccer Coaches

I know it may seem early, but I wanted to make you all aware, for those that coach high school boys varsity soccer, that Oakland University will be hosting a 2.5 day High School Team Camp on the campus of Oakland University from July 27-29th.

Our high school team camp has been a very affordable and economic option for a lot of high school teams that have attended over the years. There are resident, as well as commuter options available for those teams that happen to be local enough to drive each day.

The camp is played on 3 of the best grass training fields in all of the Midwest, as well our new lighted stadium field that opened this Fall, so 4 total fields. I am in the process of finalizing schedules for the camp that will including multiple training sessions, mulitple games, goalkeeper specific sessions, as well as some fitness and conditioning work with our strength and conditioning coach here at Oakland.

I will have final details in terms of scheduling, pricing, application, etc. available at our camp website at www.oaklandsoccercamps.com by mid February at the latest, if not sooner. I will email you all again with more detailed information when this is finalize.

Please email me back if you think your boys varsity high school team would be interested in bringing your team to Oakland to prepare for the start of your high school seasons

Look forward to hearing back from you soon

11/28/2011 - Uniform deposits
Hi All,

Unless you have been notified already, all uniforms are in and accounted for. I must say you all did a great job returning them to me. It is always a task to have to chase down that pair of missing shorts! Anyway, all deposit checks have been destroyed by Perry (except for those who were notified)so we are good on that front.

See you all next year.

Ellen

10/31/2011 - White jerseys
Apparently there is some confusion with respect to the long sleeve white jerseys. If you were not on the team last year, you MUST return the long sleeve white jersey given to you. They are not to keep. We need them for next year. Hence, if you were not a player on the team last year, and you do not return the white long sleeve jersey's, we will have to charge you for them. I have not gotten them all back yet. Please return them to me, you may bring them to me at lunch, by the end of the week.

Thank you,

Ellen

10/31/2011 - Banquet and white jerseys
This is the last day to RSVP for the Soccer banquet being held on Nov. 13 @ 6 pm.

Has everyone who loaned out their white soccer jerseys to others to be used gotten them back? If not, please let me know. I am concluding my inventory and need to make sure that they were returned to their rightful owners. If you have not gotten it back, could you please either email or call me?

Thanks,

Ellen

10/21/2011 - Game day Preperation

Homecoming tonight District final tomorrow NOT the best combination. Please make every effort to come ready to play the game of your life. A early night, good healthy food would be the recipe for success. The song remains the same.

Matching ability with attitude, talent with tenacity, genetics with grit and potential with performance. Engaging the athlete fully mind, heart, body and soul. This is critical to anyone who wants to succeed at the top: talent is not enough unless that talent is driven by an unrelenting desire to be the best and that desire is supported by an uncompromising commitment to excellence in all aspects of preparation

10/3/2011 - District draw and game day preperation

This mornings District draw has us matched up with Holly who only last week were ranked #6 in D2 slipping this week to honorable mention with Fenton.

Game to be played Tuesday October 18th with the winner playing Orchard lake saint Mary's in semi final(St Mary's were given a bye)

On the other side of our group Linden play Fenton and Avondale play Brandon with the winners of these two games playing the other semi final.

On another note Saturdays game was the worst i have witnessed in all my time at Lahser high school apart from one Saturday game against Andover in 2008 when we lost the axe to them having beaten them comfortably a couple of weeks earlier. I found out after that game there had been a large group of boys drinking and staying up late the night before.

I am not saying that is what happened Saturday but after speaking with several players after the game some told me they had not eaten nothing and others told me they got little sleep. Please do not allow sleep over's before weekend games and please make sure your son has the correct food inside to produce the energy needed to perform on game days.

Thank you and have a great day!

Douglas MacAulay

I have had only a couple of folks volunteer to work concessions this weekend so I have made assignments for the others. Since I will be out of town, Jan Wahl has agreed to oversee the concession stand for me. If you are not able to make it, please find your own sub.

JV GAME: Rohr, Werthmann, Rego.
Varstiy: Haji-Sheikh, P. Najor, Waid.

Again, we will all need to step up and help out during Districts. As soon as the schedule is posted, I will ask for volunteers and/or make assignments.

Community Sevice: I have obtained permission from Gary Swain to allow Community Service to the boys who have helped with the Force Tournament and Brother Rice. If you participated in both or either one, you need to go on line and down load the forms required for Community Service. Once you have completed them, you need to return them to me and I have to sign off on them. I have a list of who has worked and will use that as verification. Please don't forget to do this if you want credit for volunteering.

Good luck this weekend. We will be checking in to see how we are doing. Don't forget the game times are 11:00 and 12:30.

Ellen

Districts: When District's dates and time are announced, we will have the task of manning the concession stand for the duration. We will all need to pitch in to help with this endeavor. If you are interested, now, please let me know and I will put your name down. We will need probably 5-6 persons per night as these games can get rather crowded. Again, if I don't get enough volunteers, I will assign folks to help out.

---------------

Dear Coach

The Oakland University men's soccer team is asking for YOUR support this Friday night at 7pm under the lights when we open Summit League conference play with a very important game vs. Oral Roberts. Prior to the game, we will be honoring the 2010 Oakland men's soccer team for the their Summit League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance by presenting them with their championship rings from the Oakland University Athletic Department.

We would love to see a HUGE turn out from Oakland University students, student athletes, staff, parents, friends, family and the whole soccer community in Oakland County as these crowds really help create a great HOME FIELD advantage for our players to help lead us to victory.

Tickets for the game are FREE for OU students with a student ID, $5 for adults and $3 for children (12 and under).

We hope to see you all at the game on Friday and please pass the word along to the rest of the soccer community.

GO GRIZZLIES!!!!

This is the best part, they will pay us $500 for doing this. We can't beat that.

If you are interested, please let me know. If I don't get enough volunteers, I will probably have to assign folks to help out. We really could use the money folks and for 4 hours of work, $500 is not bad.

Please contact me ASAP if you are willing to help.

8/19/2011 - A note from our Trainer, John.
I, John Ciecko MS, ATC, CSCS, NASM-PES, would like to welcome you to the 2011 – 2012 fall season. This is my second year here at Lahser. I have been working as a Certified Athletic Trainer for six years, five of which I have spent with the Michigan Bucks soccer team and formerly, four at the NCAA Division I level . Please feel free to come and talk to me at anytime regarding your student-athlete.

Should your son/daughter sustain an injury, I am available in my office from 1:30pm – 7pm or until home events are completed. It is expected that all injuries be reported to me the day they occur or the following day at the latest. In the event that this is not possible we suggest that you follow the R.I.C.E. principle until I am contacted.

Rest the injured area.
ICE all injuries until seen by the trainer. It is recommended that the ice be applied for 20 minutes. Reapplication of ice should only take place once the skin has returned to normal skin temperature and the redness has disappeared.
Compression - place an ace wrap on the injured site.
Elevate the injured area above the heart as to reduce the amount of swelling to affected area.

In the event that you see a physician or end up in the emergency room prior to being seen by the trainer, we must have a doctor’s note for return to participation. The note must have the student athletes name, a diagnosis, and the date they are able to return to participation.

In the event that your son or daughter is injured, they are not excused from attending practice.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding our student-athletes.

8/18/2011 - Countryday games to be played indoor

Just been informed that the new DCDS Soccer Field turf will not be available for this weekends tournament. Therefore, all games will be played indoors at Country Days new facility. Field dimensions are 110 X 60 yards.

Enter Country Days campus off of Thirteen Mile Rd. Travel up the hill and turn right at the gate house. Turn left when the road ends and travel to the south end of the school. Turn left at the softball field park behind (south) of the tennis courts. Enter the building at the overhang entrance and turn left. Travel past the girls and boys locker rooms. Turn right at the first hallway past the boys locker room. The field house entrance is located on the left.

Fridays Game Schedule has been confirmed

FIRST ROUND OF GAMES Home Team Visiting Team

Friday, August 19, 2011
GAME ONE 12:00pm Country Day vs. Groves

TWO 4:00pm Lahser vs. Pinckney

THREE 2:00pm West Bloomfield vs. Lutheran North

FOUR - 6:00pm Farmington vs. Grosse Pointe North

Parking

There is limited parking available behind the high school south of the tennis courts adjacent to the indoor facility.

Pre-game Warm-Up Area

If Fridays games are on schedule and no overtimes/shootouts are required then teams should have 30 minutes to warm up indoors on the field. Teams may also warm-up outdoors on the grass field north of the stadium and south of the indoor facility.

Pregame Team Rooms

Pregame team rooms are available in the Field House for pregame meetings.

No Food, Pop, Gatorade or Gum

DCDS Field House rules prohibit food, pop, Gatorade and/or gum on the turf field. Teams may have Gatorade on the cement areas behind their team benches.

Spectator Seating

Due to the limited spectator seating NO admission will be charged for games played in the indoor facility. Spectators will be limited to seating along the South Touchline and are encouraged to bring folding chairs.

No concession stand

To eliminate food being brought into the facility, no concession stand will be operating. Tables/Chairs have been set up in the hallways for teams to gather for their Saturday between game meals.

Saturdays weather call for 30% chance of thunderstorms so maybe this indoor soccer will work to our advantage. Next year we plan to be outdoors with the indoor facility as an inclement option.

Please reply to this communication if you have questions, comments, concerns or recommendations.

8/13/2011 - Oakland university loss is Lahsers gain

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Assistant coach Steve Seargeant will be retiring after 20 years of service with the Oakland University men's soccer team, head men's soccer coach Eric Pogue announced on Friday. Known to his players and associates as "Sarge", Seargeant is a former professional soccer player from Liverpool, England, Seargeant joined the OU soccer program in 1984 and has enjoyed a consistent role with the team since 1992.

"Sarge has been part of the heart and soul of Oakland Soccer for close to 20 years," said Pogue. "Oakland Soccer has always hung its hat on being a very defensive-minded, hard-nosed soccer team that is tough to beat and tough to score against. That is the legacy that he helped create and will leave here at Oakland.

Seargeant was part of the group that helped guide the soccer program from the Division II era into the school's current standing as a member of the NCAA Division I. As a coach he assisted on twice on Oakland teams that advanced to the Division II National Championship game and saw the team finish the year ranked as high as second in the nation. He has also had a hand in each of Oakland's five trips to the NCAA Division I men's tournament, including this year's run which saw the team win its third Summit League Championship.

"I enjoyed being a part of the journey that grew [the Oakland University soccer program] from an NCAA Division II team into a top-class Division I program," said Seargeant. "I met and worked with a number of top-class people, not only within the soccer program, but with members of the administration as well. I am thankful for the past years and I wish the team the very best of luck."

Along the way, Seargeant not only exerted influence on the field, but also helped to shape the lives of young men that have come through the program. Many of OU's top players have Seargeant to thank for their recruitment and molding during their formative years. Several have even gone on to have highly-successful soccer playing and coaching careers.

Former OU standout Paul Snape, who was recently named the head coach at Butler University had this to say about Seargeant:
"I will forever be indebted to Steve Seargeant (Sarge) for recruiting me to Oakland University in 1996. He convinced me with his knowledge, wisdom, and passion that I needed to leave England and embark on a new challenge at Oakland University, and I have never ever regretted this decision.

"Sarge saw potential in me while others saw flaws. He is an incredibly loyal, genuine and humble human being, who cares more about the welfare of other people than himself. Sarge has had a huge impact on youth and college soccer in the state of Michigan and he should be extremely proud of what he has accomplished. I have so much to be thankful of these days, and none of this could've have been possible without Sarge. He is a true legend."

Current Oakland men's soccer assistant coach and former Oakland All-American Jason Perry says of Seargeant:

"Sarge is someone who sees the best in people, even when that person might not be able to see it within themselves. Rarely is there a time that he doesn't mesh with another person. I owe Sarge a great deal of gratitude, as he was the person who developed me into the player I was here at OU and in the pros.

"More importantly he helped mold me into the person I am today. He has a huge heart behind his "lion-like" faade and only wants the best for those who he has a chance to work with."

Seargeant spent 18 years working as an assistant with OU's legendary head coach Gary Parsons, who had this to say:

"When you thought about coaching at OU for those 18 years we were together, it was a team, not a single act. Sometimes it was like Phil Jackson and Tex Winters and sometimes it was like Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

"All the success that OU had over the past twenty years couldn't have been achieved without Sarge. OU has always been known as a team that played very tough defense and was very difficult to beat. That is Sarge's personality and Oakland has worn it with pride for many years."

Seargeant will go on to join Parsons as an assistant coach with the Michigan Bucks a Premier Development Team in the United Soccer League. The team, which competes during the summer months, will feature a number of the area's most talented soccer players, including several members of the Oakland men's soccer squad.

"Sarge, has molded countless numbers of young boys into young men with his rare combination of tough love and a kind heart. He holds his `chaps' to a very high standard of excellence and will not tolerate anything less than 110% from them," concluded Pogue. "He has moved on to new opportunities, but he will not be soon forgotten for the countless hours of blood, sweat and tears that he poured into Oakland University and Oakland soccer. You will be missed Sarge."

Hi All,

Please remember that we must have a physical form turned into the trainer BEFORE you are able to tryout for the team. Also, your pay-to-play fee must be paid by August 8. You may turn your physical form into the trainer directly at school or put it in his mailbox in the front office. We are not able to make any exceptions to this rule. You may register for pay-to-play on line through The Bloomfield Rec. department.

We will not be able to have our car wash 8/13 as that date is not available at the car wash. We are looking into other dates and other fund raising options. Suggestions are welcome. Please remember that we have committed to work at the Force FC tournament Labor Day weekend. They have guaranteed us a donation for our assistance at their tournament. It is important that all assist with a two hour shift so that we can secure this donation.

7/24/2011 - Booster Meeting
Hi,

I would like to hold a meeting for all the Booster Board Members as well as anyone else who would be interested in attending on Wed. Aug 3, @ 7:30 pm. It will be held at my home. We have many things we need to get organized if we are to make this season a success for our soccer players. Please let me know if you plan on attending the meeting. All parents, old and new are encouraged to attend. The more support the better it is for the Soccer team.

7/20/2011 - Updates and Notes
Hi All,

Please note that there have been some time changes on the schedule for the conditioning and some practices. There may be more changes as we approach the season. As of right now, once we begin with the regular school year, practices will be Mon. 8-9:30, Wed. 3-4:30, Friday's 3-4:30. Please be ready to take the field at the time listed so arrive at least 15 minutes before to gear up. This pertains to all conditioning and practices.

Please note that you must have a signed physical exam filed with the school by the first day of tryouts. I will be on the field that day to collect any last minute forms. In the mean time, all completed physical exam forms are to be turned into John, the school's trainer. No student will be allowed to tryout unless this form is completed and turned in.

Also, all student's wishing to play soccer must sign up for "pay to play." You should have gotten a letter in the mail regarding this. If you have not received a letter, please refer to the bloomfield rec. website and register through them. All players must that this completed before tryouts as well.

Until we have ordered our practice t-shirts, please wear white t-shirts to practice in. We will take care of t-shirts orders at tryouts.

As we approach this year of soccer, we are very excited at what lies ahead this season. Continue to work on your conditioning and be ready to start work with the conditioning workouts Aug 1.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either me or Dougie.

7/20/2011 - Steve Seargeant new coach profile

Steve Seargeant served as an assistant coach at OU for 20 seasons, including his final two as an assistant to coach Eric Pogue. He spent 18 years as an assistant coach under Gary Parsons, including 12 years as the top assistant coach before he moved to the second assistant coach position beginning in the 2002 season. Seargeant, who was Parsons' assistant in 1984, began his second stint at Oakland University in 1992.

The Oakland soccer program has seen great success in Seargeant's tenure, making it to five NCAA Division I Tournament appearances. He also helped guide Oakland to a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament Finals and saw OU ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation at the NCAA Division II level.

In addition to his duties with the Golden Grizzlies varsity soccer program, Seargeant assisted with the Michigan Novi Jaguars.

A native of Liverpool, England, Seargeant played soccer professionally for 16 years with Everton F.C. He has been a camp coach and clinician since retiring from the professional ranks in 1982.

Seargeant holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "D" License, his other coaching stints include the Detroit Sport Club, Michigan Selects, Vardar Academy and the North Metro Rangers club program.

As a youth, Seargeant had the honor of playing in historic Wembley National Stadium for England's under-16 national team.

In the summer of 1994, Seargeant served as a correspondent for USA Today, covering the World Cup games held in the Pontiac Silverdome.

Padded compression shorts and/or keeper pants may be helpful too. All participants must bring water to each session as well - you will be working hard! Please also bring at least one soccer ball to each training session.

5/19/2011 - Tryout information is now on line
The dates for tryouts have been posted on line. It also lists the parent/player information, document signing meeting. Captains practices will be posted in a few weeks.

Dougie would like a car wash to be held on Aug. 13, the Saturday after tryouts. We would like a parent volunteer to coordinate this. Please contact me if you are willing to coordinate this event.

5/19/2011 - General Lahser Soccer Updates
The Lahser Soccer schedule for the fall of 2011 has been posted on the website. They are still working on Captain's practice dates and tryout dates so you will notice that they have not been included yet.

Please let Dougie know if you will not be returning in the fall so that the roster can be adjusted accordingly and you also won't need to continue to receive our emails.

If anyone knows of incoming 9th grade boys or anyone else who will be interested in playing soccer next fall, please be sure to give them either my email address or Dougie's so we may answer any questions that they may have and add their name to the email list so that they may participate in Captain's practices and other events this summer.

Dougie will again be holding his summer camp. It will be held July 25-29, 1-3:30 pm at Lahser High School. You may register through the Bloomfield Rec.
department, class #2396-01.

We have been asked to participate in the Bloomfield Force's soccer tournament this Labor Day weekend. It should be a great fundraiser for Lahser Soccer so mark your calendars. We would like 100% participation.

Thanks,

Ellen Wietecha
