6/12/2009 - Welcome
Lahser men's soccer 2009/10

I would officially like to welcome our new JV coach Ehab Hassan and announce our varsity captain for the season Cody Henderson.

Off season training will begin July 6th (schedule will be out prior) to give all our players and coaches a small break before the season. It is highly recommended that all player's who are intending on playing soccer this season show up in top physical shape by the time tryout's begin as there will be fitness testing over these first few day's of the "official" soccer calendar. There is not much time from the tryout until the first varsity competition.

I am looking forward to the season and working with the boy's. I will be doing my best to help the boy's achieve as a team and individually for State awards.

Dougie MacAulay

At the board meeting we discussed the JV memory books from 2008. A decision was made to not produce the books and credit everyone that paid for the books. If your son does not play this fall, a check will be sent to you for the $15.

Hopefully this year we can get a commitment early to create a memory books. We will try to get some of the pictures on the JV website.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

4/3/2009 - Meeting notes from March 25
At the meeting the members elected executive officers. They are as follows:

Keith Peters, President
Jan Wahl, Vice President
Jim Cook, Treasurer
Elise Guidos, Secretary

If you wish to be considered a member-at-large please e-mail me so you can be added to the district website as a contact. There are lots of tasks before us and it takes a village to get it all done.

On the website, (www.lahsermenssoccer.org) I have added a preliminary calendar of the events from June through October this year. It includes all games. Yes, ALL games have been scheduled for this fall. (Thanks, Eve) We have only weekday games. Mark your calendars now!

As a part of our schedule this fall the JV and Varsity teams will be traveling to Traverse City the weekend of August 28-30 to play two tournament style games against Traverse City Central and Petoskey. The teams will be staying at the Twin Lakes camp west of Traverse City that the Force used for summer camps in the past. This will be a great opportunity for the teams to bond together as well as play against two strong opponents. Petoskey won DII last fall. While the total schedule has not been set, it is safe to say chaperons will be needed.

To help defray the cost of traveling to Traverse City, Dougie MacAulay arraigned to have a number team play at Lahser the last two weekends. It is hoped that the fees and concessions will help defray the cost of going north in August.

Lastly the boys and girls soccer boosters have purchased some equipment with assistance from the Bloomfield Boosters. The boys paid 25%, girls 25% and the Boosters 50% of the $2615 total. This should raise the level of training that all our coaches can do at practice. Purchased were 10 soccer wall dummies with bases, 2 sets of mega ladders (34 feet each) and Training Rebounders. The boosters tabled our request to purchase two shelters at a cost of $9300. This would probably become a special fundraiser if we wish to pursue it further. We would need to collect half the money before going to the Booster board.

That is about it. Hopefully my memory served me correctly and everyone got to the bottom of the e-mail. Have a good break.

3/31/2009 - Frostbite Friendlies
The weekend was fairly successful despite of a few cancellations along the way. I think we learned a bit in that because of the weather, hot cocoa and coffee was the best thing going, followed by a few drinks and candy.

I have the 'extra' beverages and snacks at my home. I know a couple of people have expressed that they would be willing to work the four games this weekend. It only takes a couple of people for each block with the majority of the traffic coming between games and half time. Remember any money we make helps lower the cost of going to Traverse City this August.

This is the schedule for the weekend:

Friday, April 3rd
6pm - 8pm -- U15B TSC Arsenal vs. TBA
8pm - 10pm -- U14B TSC Titans vs. Carpathia Kickers

Saturday, April 4th
10am - 12pm -- U15B TSC Arsenal vs. Carpathia Kickers
12pm - 2pm -- U14B TSC Titans vs.Bay Area Soccer Club (BASC)

Please e-mail me if you have a time that you wish to work.

Thanks,

Keith Peters

3/27/2009 - Concession Scheulde Correction

3/27/2009 - Last Note
I know this is all last minute, dont shoot the messenger. If you need to make modifications no problem just communicate with the group before or after, try and switch with someone or get a replacement. Given the circumstances we will do the best that we can. I will be without email for the weekend so this is my last communique, please use my cell.

3/27/2009 - This Weekends Concessions Detail
Thanks in advance for the help with concessions this weekend. For those of you who did not attend and are assigned call a friend to get filled in. Below is the schedule. Please find your own substitutes if necessary. Remember all concessions proceeds go to the program. Due to timing and the loose nature of setup, this is sort of play by your own rules. Keith Peters will open up and close up each day. We have stocked the stand with water, gatorade, cookies, and granola bars. Price it as you see fit. Mr. Cook will come by with some starter cash on Friday, and Keith will pick up any funds each end of day. We will need to measure sales with additional purchases. The concensus is to have folks in the morning grab some bagels and pickup the Bigby Coffee (which is donated for free). Next to Bidgy's the Subway is donating subs. We can also grab $5 Little Ceasar's pizza. Each group will need to pickup food as it goes. Call Brian Agar or Keith Peters for the information on food pickup. Kathy Landschulz can also lend a hand. This is a team effort and the boys are expected to do the work. Keep the cell phones on and hopefully the weather cooperates and we make some money.

3/24/2009 - Meeting Reminder
Just as a reminder we will be having a meeting of all parents of boys that want to play soccer at Lahser. Just as it takes a team effort to win games, it takes a behind the scenes team to make it a great experience.

Hope to see you there.

3/16/2009 - Mandatory Parents Meeting on March 25th
All,

There will be a mandatory parents meeting on March 25 at 7:30 in the Lahser cafeteria for all parents who have 10tth, 11th and 12th grade boys who desire to play soccer this fall.

The purpose of the meeting is to elect an executive board as well as fill many of the positions prior to the start of the fall season. This is your chance to get involved.

An important event that needs everyone's support is the upcoming "Frostbite Friendlies". This is a series of soccer games that will be happening the weekend of March 27-29. Coach MacAulay has arraigned for these games to help defray the cost of traveling to Traverse City this August. This is similar to what the Lahser Girls team had this past weekend. John Kelly has volunteered to help organize all players and parents to assist in running concessions and monitoring the clock for the games.

The JV and Varsity teams will be traveling to play two games in Traverse City on August 29th. They will be staying at the Twin Lakes camp that was used by the Bloomfield Force in the past for a summer camp.

More information about both these events and a timeline for the entire season will be available on March 25th.

See you there!

1/28/2009 - No Indoor Soccer this Winter
All,

I have called Oakland Yard today and have told them that they need to get another team in our place for the season. While personally I think it would be a great idea to get the boys together in the off season, it just quite didn't come together. Many of the other high schools (West Bloomfield, Groves, Rochester, Andover, Athens, Rice) do this kind of activity, it would be nice to get it together next winter.

The question becomes what made you not want to do it? Day of week, time of day, not enough time, location, injury, didn't want to, didn't see the value? Please respond (juniors too) so we have a better chance of making a go of it next year.

Thanks,

Keith Peters
keithmartha@comcast.net

1/21/2009 - Indoor Soccer at Oakland Yard
The team has been entered into playing in the 8v8 league at Oakland Yard in Waterford. The first game was on January 10, during a snowstorm. It would be a great opportunity to get the boys playing together, especially the guys that are not playing travel soccer and possibly get our keepers some 'in game' training.

The next game is on Saturday evening.

The schedule is as follows:

Jan 24 8:00 pm
Feb 21 11:00 pm
Mar 07 10:00 pm
Mar 21 9:00 pm
Apr 04 9:00 pm

As they say every cause needs a champion. Personally, my son cannot commit to four of the dates. Are there enough takers to want to pursue this further? If you need everyone's name and numbers, I can provide you a list if you need them. Please call me 248 854 2363 (cell) or e-mail at keithmartha@comcast.net

Yours in Soccer,

Keith Peters

12/30/2008 - 8 v 8 indoor at Oakland yard
The Knights have been entered in to a 8 v 8 soccer division. All games will be played on Saturday evenings begining January 10th . This is an oppertunity for the boys to play together out of season and also a chance for some players who do not play travel to get some playing time. All interested please contact Nick Wilkie or Andrew Paulsen asap as this is short notice given the recent accident at the yard. I would like to wish you all a very Happy new year.

12/13/2008 - Travis city
As mentioned. I would like the boys to play the D2 state champs Petoskey and D! school Travis city. This accomodation is perfect for the teams needs. This would be great for team building, season preperation at a low cost.

12/12/2008 - Keeper Training
Joe G., our keeper coach, has agreed to train goalkeepers over the winter to get a start on next fall. He is planing on doing some training at Lahser with a limited number of boys.

If you are interested please call Joe at 248 978 8100 or stop in at the Biggby coffee shop on Telegraph north of Carl's Golfland and try to catch him in person.

12/12/2008 - 2009 OAA Red Division Schedule
The 2009 OAA Red division schedule was released recently. The schools decided that they would split the OAA into two parts rather than three. We are in the upper 'Red' division. We will play 11 league games with plus an additional 7 non-league games.

Dougie is exploring the concept of an 'up north' tour, but it would need parent support. The idea is to go and play one of the Traverse City team and Petoskey, who won our division this year. These would be JV and Varsity games. Unfortunately this is not being funded by the school district so the boosters/parents would be responsible for transportation, housing, and meals. This would occur the weekend prior to Labor Day and the weekend after the Country Day tournament. It would be a good opportunity to see some quality opponents that we usually don't see as well as some team building.

What do you think? Please e-mail me back with your thoughts so we can build a consensus either way.

Thanks for your time so far in advance of the season.

10/19/2008 - Uniform Return Change of Plans-Team Picture-Wednesday October 22
Change of plans regarding the returning of the Varsity Uniforms. Instead of returning them to Mrs. Brooks house on Monday, we will instead plan to meet at the Turf field after school (3pm) on Wednesday to take a team photograph as we do not have a full team photo for this season. On picture day this year, only half of the team was present and therefore wed like to get a full team picture. We also want a picture of all the seniors.

After the pictures on Wednesday, you will be able to return your uniform at the field and receive your check. Additionally, for interested players, we can play a pickup game.

Thanks,
Andrew Paulsen

10/3/2008 - Be prepared or be prepared to fail
Be prepaired or be prepared to fail. These words i remember from one of the top coaches in the world. Our game day preperation and activities the night before Andover were not geared to being prepared as players should before a big game. Full focus, rest, relaxation and a good nights sleep is what is required before games.Boys running wild or having sleepovers is not the way to go. Boys will go to bed on sleepovers early but rarly sleep early (been there done that )I am enjoying the season and want all your boys to achieve this year. The Andover game may have seemed like just another game to some. The reality is the boys went from being ranked 4th in the state to 7th. No game is easy.We as a team must not approach it as such.We have a chance to change our rankings in a big way. Please be prepared or be prepared to fail!

Thankyou and have a great day.

10/1/2008 - Bloomfield Boosters Golf Outing- Sunday, October 5th
ONE LAST TRY..............Please see the note from
Jim Holman below. If you have the time, please support the Bloomfield Boosters and the BH sports teams!!

****************************

As you all know, the Bloomfield Hills Booster Organization is hosting our annual fund raising golf tournament this Sunday, October 5, at Shenandoah Country Club in West Bloomfield .

For those unclear on the objective of the Boosters Organization it has one clear missionto help the kids. We give grants to virtually any team within the district who requests italmost $30,000 alone last year.

For the event to be a success, and allow the organization to continue to help the kids and the teams, we only need 1 golf group per Bloomfield Hills teamshould be pretty easy

In addition to being your PA Announcer at home games, I also serve as a Trustees on the Board of Directors and I have personally stepped up for ensuring the commitment of 1 foursome for the Boys Varsity team and the Girls Varsity team from Lahser. I have not fulfilled my obligation to the Boardwe dont have golf groups from either team

It is a very worthy event, and it promises to be a lot of funyou dont have to be a good golferits a scramblethis is the perfect format for really lousy golfers to have a great afternoon and maybe win some prizes!

I have checked with the weatherman and he promises sunny skies and a high temperature near 85 degrees!

If you can help by gathering a teamplease call me ASAP

Thank you for your support.

Lahser wins in soccer, 2-1
It has an 8-2 shots advantage on Berkley, and coach believes it could have scored more.
Detroit News wire services
BERKLEY -- Bloomfield Hills Lahser's soccer team beat Berkley, 2-1, Tuesday night.

Lahser outshot Berkley 8-2, but coach Douglas MacAulay thought his team could have capitalized on more chances.

"We only scored two, but it could have been five or six easy," MacAulay said. "I was satisfied, not totally satisfied, but happy that we were creating chances -- we've got a long way to go."

Mark Reedy scored the winning goal in the first minute of the second half, taking a cross-field pass from Nick Wilkie. Wilkie scored the first goal.

Travis Brown scored for Berkley on a penalty kick with 14 minutes left in the first half.

"One of the defenders put their arms out and touched the ball," MacAulay said. "It was kind of silly."

9/2/2008 - Newspaper articles/game scores for Team Memory Book

Varsity game information and scores are being reported to a number of local newspapers. We are gathering reported scores and articles that appear in the Oakland Press, the Bloomfield/Birmingham Eagle and the Observer Eccentric Newspapers. These articles will be used for the Team Memory Book.

If you receive the Detroit Free Press, Detroit News,or the Daily Tribune and see a reported score or article, please save this for the memory book.

Thanks.

Jeff and Diane Paulsen

9/2/2008 - Picture Day
Lifetouch photography will be on the field on September 11 at 4:45 for team and individual pictures. JV picture will be taken first, then varsity. If you want copies of the individual pictures, there are forms available outside Eve Claar's office.

9/2/2008 - Away game snacks
Mrs. Elisevich has voluteered to have 'snacks' for all the boys before the away games. The team will get bagels, a sub sandwich and a drink. This is being funded by the boosters.

Thanks Candy Elisevich for taking this on!

8/31/2008 - Training shirts
At training could ALL boys please wear yellow practice shirts on Mondays and Fridays white practice t shirts on Wednesdays.

Thankyou, Enjoy the holiday!

8/27/2008 - Lahser Gym Lockers
Arraignments have been made for all soccer players to receive gym lockers at the high school.

Please see Mr. Gust, in his office, at 2:00 on Thursday. He can give you a locker at other times, but he is trying to assign the 'black' large lockers to the soccer players to accommodate soccer balls. Also by all going at the same time the lockers will be assigned closer together.

Thanks,

Keith Peters
For the Booster board

8/24/2008 - Practice time
All practices will be at 3pm on the main field starting from tomorrow. Please note.

The second goal against Seaholm was gifted because we only had one player in the wall. Seaholm were able to get a shot on net because of this.Had there been two players in the defensive wall and lined up by our goalkeeper. There would not have been a direct shot on goal and the game would have been tied and not lost.

The point is.We must learn from this and make sure it will not happen again.

8/24/2008 - Video Services
Dougie is looking for someone with a camcorder so we can record the games. Personally I do not own one, but I'm sure we could all take a turn taking wide shots from the top of the press box.

The recording would be then used at some of the practices.

Thanks.

Keith Peters
For the Lahser Varsity

8/24/2008 - Ball Chasers
I am looking for someone to organize home game ball chasers for the season.

We have only seven home games.

The boosters will be paying $10/game. The idea is to have up to 4 ball chasers.

I have recruited three kids for the first game and am looking for a fourth to start the season.

Please voluteer to help out the team by organizing the next 6 games.

Keith Peters
For the Lahser Varsity

8/21/2008 - Ready - Set - Go - and we are off
Thank you parents for coming to the meeting and offering to help out with the season. We really can use your help to make everything happen.

A couple of things
-If you are interested in having your soccer player get a warmup you need to stop by Soccer Plus ( East side of telegraph just north of Square Lake near Post Office - North of were Costco was and will be this fall ) They cost $90 and are really high quality..

- If you want to order a sweashirt you need to get a hold oF Roxanne Brooks by Friday Cell 248 202-7873 They are $25 and come with a name on the back so they can be found again

- Some had questions about the bag. They are included in $75 the boosters collected and are out for screening.

- Banquet November 5th ~7pm - Need to have final count by end of September Cost is $30

- Not sure if everyone is aware of the Memory books. I am sorry I did not bring the examples I had.. They cost $15 and are really great

- I will be posting the signup sheets and working to review all the information in our database in the next few days ( Thanks Keith for putting in Varsity information )

8/20/2008 - Bus Service to Away Games
This weekend there will not be bus service from Lahser to Country Day.

There will be bus service to North Farmington.

This is a schedule of departure times:

8/26 3:45 pm North Farmington
9/2 3:45 pm Berkley (Hurley)

8/19/2008 - Varsity notes
Thanks to all of you that made the meeting this evening. We still have a few holes in our volunteer list.

We could use another photographer or two. Last years photographer has moved on and we need someone to lead the charge.

With such a tight schedule it will be difficult to fit in many team dinners. Any one for the Sunday before playoffs?

Jeff or Molly Landis has volunteered to coordinate senior night.

Francine Grace will be setting up the Away Game snack schedule. I think that we only have 7 away games, considering that the away Andover game is on a Saturday morning.

Anyone to get Home Game Ball Chasers?

Thanks

Keith Peters

8/18/2008 - Tomorrow's meeting
It is said that many hands make the work light. One of the big points of the meeting tomorrow is to organize volunteers for a variety of activities that support the teams. This includes working concessions, taking pictures at the games, building memory books and bringing away game snacks.

Get involved and be a part of the team behind the team.

7/29/2008 - Preseason Down Time.
Next week is Preseason Down Time. There will be no Captains Practices.

From the MSHAA handbook, The preseason down time is also a pause in the action that was adopted in 2006 which prohibits open gyms (which in some schools has evolved into out of season practices) for a period of 6 to 14 days prior to the start of each season: From Aug. 1 to the start of fall sports practices, Additionally, no open gyms which involve that sport or sport-specific camps or clinics shall occur at the school or be sponsored elsewhere by the school; and no competition between groups that resemble school teams (more than 3 students of grades 7-12 of the district) may occur at any location with any of that school districts personnel present. Non-mandatory weight training and non-sport specific conditioning is allowed.

Accordingly, the training next week at Ultimate Soccer Arenas is not sponsored Lahser, the boosters or any of the coaches. The training will not be sport specific. It is strictly optional.
